Aquis; Adoption Center
The Aquis are an easy-going and relaxed species, marked by an unusual physical feature.
The sponge-like coat of the Aquis soaks up ands stores water to use to cool down the species, as they lack another way to regulate body temperature.
During periods of high heat, such as the summer, this stored water will run down their short coats until depleted to keep them cool.
In the winter, when the effect is less needed, the water-soaked fur will often ice over into sharp spikes.
The Aquis used to travel in groups and roam barren, desert-like landscapes, but now as more land is settled, their nomadic pack structure has given way to a more solitary lifestyle, where groups of cohabiting Aquis greater than four are rare.
They prefer agrarian pursuits, and are known for their ability to grow things in even the harshest climates.
According to legend, they originated in an underwater world, but a great cataclysm separated the Aquis from their ancestral home and forced them to venture landward.
Occasionally, some Aquis will set out in search of this home, but as of yet no such city has been found.
Old Description;
Laid back and easy-going creatures, Aquis are an adaptable species, graceful and mysterious.
In the summer, water constantly leaks down their short coats, keeping them wet and healthy in dry heat; in places of high humidity, the effect is less pronounced, but still evident.
By contrast, when the local weather gets cold enough, the water often freezes into spiky icicles that cover every inch of their hide, rendering the Aquis nearly unrecognizable.
In the old days, they were often mistaken for monsters.
They also used to roam the land in large groups, turning once-barren wastelands into fertile paradises by creating springs of water around which living things could thrive.
However, the modern Aquis tends to be very solitary, despite their attempts to settle down and call one place home.
According to legend, they originally came from a country far underneath the sea, but they have forgotten their way home after being on land so long.
Every once in a while, some fearless Aquis will brave the ocean to find their ancestral homeland.
